Climate

The climate index input to the Arda Index is the Climate Change Performance Index, a monitoring tool run by Germanwatch, an independent development, environmental, and human rights non-profit.

The CCPI evaluates 59 countries and the European Union, which together generate 90%+ of global greenhouse gas emissions. Using standardized criteria, the CCPI looks at four categories, with 14 indicators: Greenhouse Gas Emissions (40% of the overall score), Renewable Energy (20%), Energy Use (20%), and Climate Policy (20%).

This differs from most indicators in that it tracks concrete actions taken (implemented policy and its direct outcomes) rather than the final long-term impact (changes in the temperature of the planet or sea levels). We took this decision in this model's initial design because measurable climate changes will likely occur along long timelines.
